Riley Hanick is a writer and doctoral candidate in English at the University of Iowa, where he is currently completing a dissertation on indexicality in the contemporary literature and visual art of North America.
 
He is the author of Three Kinds of Motion (Sarabande Books, 2015) and Nine Pivots (University of Iowa DSPS, 2021), and the co-author of Mapping the Imaginary (ALA Editions, 2019). He has collaborated with Lydia Diemer on three chapbooks, most recently Surface Notes (2019). His essays, journalism, and translations have been published in Open Library of Humanities, Sonora ReviewSeneca RevieweyeshotLabor WorldNo Depression and elsewhere. His work has been included among the notable mentions for the Best American Essays series and supported by grants from the Jentel and McKnight foundations.
